John Woods

(Diocese of Galloway) Born at Dalbeattie, 26th September 1855, the son of Michael Woods and Mary Riddick; at Blairs, 17th July 1868 to 1872; left for Scotland, 4th June 1879, unordained (because dimissorial letters could not be issued, the rector having died and his successor not yet having the necessary faculty); ordained by Bishop McLachlan in Dumfries, 22nd June 1879; was priest in charge at Kilmarnock and a canon of Galloway chapter, when nominated rector of the college, 1903, arriving in Valladolid, 12th October 1903; left for Scotland, 14th April, 1909; priest in charge, Maybole, 1909-15, and St. Margaret’s, Ayr, 1915-32; died in Warrenpoint, Co. Down, 8th January 1932.

Report of the ordination of John Woods in the Scottish Catholic Directory of 1880.

The Rev. John Woods was born at Dalbeattie on the 26th September, 1855; entered Blairs College on the 17th July, 1868; and was sent to the Scots College, Valladolid, in May, 1872. He there received the Tonsure and Minor Orders from Mgr. Fr. Blanco y Lorenzo, Archbishop of Valladolid, on the 20th December, 1878; and was ordained Sub-Deacon on the following day, and Deacon on the 8th March, 1879, by the same Prelate. He returned to Scotland in June, 1879; was ordained Priest by Bishop McLachlan in Dumfries on the 22nd of that month; and was stationed as junior Priest at Kilmarnock.
